The National Park Lovcen encompasses the central and the highest part of the mountain massive with the same name. The highest point is at the same time the highest peak of Lovcen – Stirovnik, where the television tower is situated. Lovcen is the mountain, which had status of the saint mountain in the Montenegrin tradition. It represents a symbol of national identity and statehood. The most important monument value on Lovcen is the Mausoleum of the Montenegrin great person Peter II Petrovic Njegos, the lord of Montenegro and the great poet. The Njegos Mausoleum is work by the famous sculptor Ivan Mestrovic. In the entrance hall of the Mausoleum there are two stone Kariatides , the Montenegrin Lady and the Daughter, weighting 7,5 tons each. In the front of the Mausoleum, there is a figure of Njegos, made of the most beautiful stone, weighting 28 tons, and over it a golden eagle with open wings. A couple of thousands of tons of stone was used for construction of the Mausoleum. From the foothill up to the entrance in the Mausoleum 461 stairs were built in. The National Park Lovcen is connected with the road Cetinje-Njegusi-Kotor. The macadam road Krstac-Ivanova korita 12 km long connect several summer pastures on Lovcen.
Great tourism importance within the National Park itself has a road beginning from Cetinje and ending with the Njegos Mausoleum. The road is 21 km long. Save for those roads, there are in the mountain also well-preserved remnants of Austro-Hungarian strategic roads, which linked foothill of the mountain with the peaks. The National Park Lovcen is an area with exceptional natural, cultural, educational and esthetical value. These qualities enable practising of various forms of tourist movements.

Excursion tourism has the most important role. An important factor for its development is the vicinity of developed maritime tourism region, so that Lovcen represents a part of tourism offer of this region and exactly for this reason there are intensive tourist excursion flows towards Lovcen. Visit to the Njegos Mausoleum is enormous and during this year there were around 50.000 visitors. The sport and manifestation tourism has certain tradition on the mountain, since every year a hill-mountain rally is organised on the road Cetinje-Ivanova korita.

NJEGUSI – Great men of the Petrovic dynasty were born in this pleasant and nice village, among those bishops Danilo and Njegos. Today, this village is famous for producing renowned cheese à la Njegusi, ham à la Njegusi and dried mouton meat. Quality honey and old-Slavonic refreshing beverage medovina (mead) are produced in this mountain settlement. For this reason, all tourist group always stop in this settlement and taste the Njegusi specialties.
