| Pljevlja is situated in the northern part of Montenegro, in the valley of rivers Cehotina and Breznica. The town is mentioned for the first time under name Pljevlja in 15 th century. It got its name by the chaff people ( pljevari ) who kept in this area the chaff ( pljevlja ). The MOSQUE OF GAZI HUSEIN PASHA. It was built in 1562. This nice mosque represents the supreme masterpiece of the Oriental architecture. This is at the same time the most beautiful religious monument of Moslems in Montenegro. MONASTERY OF ST. TRINITY – The monastery is situated nearby Pljevlja, in a valley surrounded by forest. The monastery was most probably erected already in the 12 th century, but was painted later with very nice frescoes. |
