When you find yourself on the unforgettable excursion to Lovcen you cannot bypass Cetinje, the town of museums and memories from the Montenegrin past, the town-hero. Today, this interesting town is the centre and capital of the Montenegrin-Coastal Diocese of Archbishop. The town is situated on the Cetinje Field below the Mount of Lovcen. Immersed in the vast park, the buildings are typical for Montenegrin architecture from 18 th and 19 th centuries. You will get to know in the museums of Cetinje and in the treasury of the Cetinje monastery the whole history of Montenegro and richness of its cultural and artistic heritage and people's creativity. The most important facility in the town is the Cetinje monastery. The monastery was burned down and destroyed four times during its history by the Turks, but each time it was rebuilt by will and devotion of the people. The Cetinje monastery used to be for a long time the political and spiritual centre of Montenegro. However, Njegos built in 1838 the new building for governing needs, which later was named Billiarda. It got its name after the billiard, on which Njegos and his guests used to play often. Very valuable relics are held in the Treasury of the Cetinje Monastery, and the major sacred objects of Christendom are found in a specially arranged Chapel of St. John: a hand of St. John Baptist and a small part of the Jesus crucifix from his Golgotha. In addition to the visit to the museums, it is interesting to see as well some facilities such as: House of Zeta, Young Ladies' Institute (now the student and pupil dormitory), and then you can climb the path to the Orlov krs (Falcon's Karst), where the Duke Danilo is buried and from which you have a beautiful view to the town and Lovcen.
