Town of Berane is situated on the banks of the River Lim, which gives it more beautiful outlook. Even though that on the territory of Berane numerous traces of life and cultures in the range of three millenniums are preserved, today's settlement was founded only in the era of the Ottoman rule in 1862. It was liberated and entered within the territory of Montenegro in 1912. Above the town area, in a plateau, an airport was built for military and sport purposes. It is expected that it will be used as well for the civil transport. From the airport plateau, there is a nice view to the town and a great part of surrounding area. In the city, there is a hotel “Lokve”, and right from it there is a funicular railway (ski lift) to the ski grounds on Smiljevica and Skrivena. The hotel was built in form of a geometric cone and is well fitted in the environment.
